Thoughts: The Hot Summer Bash was an outstanding meet with six state ranked teams. The four top teams in our region are Orange, Thomas Worthington, Coffman and Darby before this season started. I know now that Davidson is right in the mix come October. This race shows that we have a lot of potential and a lot of room to improve. We must commit to each other and work towards a TEAM goal. We must encourage each other daily and explore our individual frontiers. When we search the unknown we will find that extra power to blend with each member of this team to rise to new heights!
Hot Summer Bash Recap: The start of the varsity race was fast but the runners settled in as they come into the stadium at 500 meters. Davidson did a great job of finding position and staying together through the stadium. By the mile we looked good with runners having teammates to run with. Adam Hoover-12 and Chris Egolf-11 were at 5:07. Andrew Tighe-10 was becoming the runner I knew he was at 5:09. Max LeClair-9 and Andrew Taylor were working hard at 5:15. Next came Matt Rose-12 and Patrick Keck-12 at 5:16 with Jack Altman-9 and Scott Earley-11 following in 5:17. Ian Cook was next at 5:19. After the first mile the heat was turned on and Adam Hoover-12 was struggling to hang onto the lead group. By the two mile mark, Adam was in the top ten at 10:27 with Chris Egolf-11 falling back and Andrew Tighe catching fire at 10:36. Davidson was now looking for their 4 and 5 guy. 10:57, 10:58 and 10:59 was Andrew Taylor-10, Max LeClair-9 and Matt Rose-12. With the last mile, all about our 4 and 5 making ground on the runners ahead we would need focus. Adam Hoover-12 was running ok, Andrew Tighe-10 was having a great race while Chris Egolf-11 was fighting hard in the top twenty. This team had great finishes against an outstanding field. Adam Hoover-12 finished in 11th place in 16:35. Andrew Tighe-10 is back while placing15th (16:43). Chris Egolf-11 finally got the rust out with a respectable 22nd place (16:520). Our fourth man was Matt Rose-12 (17:08, 32), and that all important fifth man (Andrew Taylor-10) came in 17:15 for 35th place. Freshman Max LeClair-9 was awesome in this field finishing 39th (17:25). Scott Earley-11 (17:34, 45), Jack Altman-9 (17:36, 46), Ian Cook-11 (17:42, 50) and Patrick Keck-12 (17:55, 67) made strong showings.
Open and 9/10 standouts:
Ryan O’Rorke-12, Coming off an injury, ran18:22 for 13th place in the Open race and was followed by Drew Sauvey-12 (18:31, 15th) and Brian Egolf-11 (18:42, 17th). In the 9/10 Race, we had another freshmen, Conner Johanssen-9 earn a letter with a fine time of 18:41 for 21st place.
Outstanding Runners: With all the Davidson runners doing so well I have to give this award to the Parents of Davidson Cross Country for all of their hard work and dedication to making the Hot Summer Bash such a success. Thanks parents for all that you do!
The Next Two Weeks: Davidson will be going into a base building phase. Long and strong is what it is all about. Two work outs during the week with a Highbanks Saturday long run on September 12th. Friday will be no practice. You should run 40 minutes on your own The week of the 14th we will be preparing to run fast at Eaton and win a championship. Each workout during this phase is very important and we cannot cut corners. Stays focused and push your teammates while encouraging them.
