Rules and values
The importance of Hilliard Davidson's team philosophy is the key to our success. Within the philosophy are three important elements that each runner must incorporate to be a part of the team: commitment, goal setting and hard work. If you feel that any part of the philosophy is something you can not be committed to, cross country might not be for you.
Commitment
This is the most important element for the success of any team or individual. This is also the hardest thing for most people to do because this forces individuals to make choices about what is most important to them. If every athlete on the team is committed to a strong set of goals, then we will all reach the top of the mountain of success. The journey is not easy. There will be many peaks and valleys on the way to the summit, but with everyone sharing this commitment, we will help everyone to the top.
Goals
Goals are what make the commitment real. Each athlete must dream, then make those dreams goals. With goals, your commitment is easier. With every big goal there must be smaller goals to achieve along the way so progress can be measured. Without goals you are just letting life pass you by rather than living life to its potential. Make both team and individual goals. Share them with your coaches, then commit yourself to them. The only thing left to do is work hard toward your goals.
Hard Work
There is no substitute for hard work. Each and every day Hilliard Davidson Cross Country runners work hard for their goals. We stay committed to our goals and work hard for them. If an athlete does not work hard they have the ability to lead others astray. This destroys the entire team philosophy.
