Coaches Updates
August 12th 2013 Hilliard Davidson Boys Cross Country Report
Running Festival Recap: Davidson looked really good after a solid week of training. The orders were to stay together and push your training partners to a great effort. This was done by all and we looked good in our uniforms. Organizing an event is hard on the coaches so we let the runners execute the plan. A few things that Coach Stroh and I want to address: 1. An event has a purpose. We train all year for these opportunities and the focus of the runners should be on the event, and no one should leave until there is some type of formal sendoff. Many of the new runners just left. This is not how a championship team operates and we will stay until all is cleaned up. 2. Davidson cross country is special. We train all year for the season and now things are beginning to pick up. Our focus is building and we are directing our energy toward the Hot Summer Bash. With that said we train hard and work on those things that will make us better runners.
Facts: With high expectations comes an even greater commitment. Davidson has been recognized by Mark Bloom (National High School Ranking) as one of the top ten teams in the Midwest. Two teams and possibly three will earn a trip to Oregon for the NXN Championships. Davidson has the potential but we must stay focused on the journey. Desire will push us and we must be patient because October is a long ways off. Every choice you make has consequences so think them through and look down the road so you know exactly where you want to go. STATE CHAMPIONS
Developing a Front Runner Attitude: By the time the Hot Summer Bash rolls around, I need my runners to become confident in their abilities. We need to know going into our first meet that we have seven front runners. A front runner is someone who is confident and strong. They help their teammates and pull them along. They hold the pace and use the other teams’ leaders to save their energy. As the race goes on, Davidson runners get stronger and hungrier for the finish line. We have worked on strength and we will finish. If Davidson is to become state champions we need to have front runners. Your mental mindset must begin to reinforce these thoughts. Get tough and desire the front. Daydream and picture yourself running as a group with the leaders. These are the thoughts that should be dancing in your head.

The Week Ahead: Another busy week for the runners with freshmen focus, the Booster drive Tuesday, Hilliard 5K Friday and an 8:00AM Highbanks run Saturday. WOW!
Hilliard 5K: The varsity will be running in a pack as fast as they can go together (The goal is always 5 guys). Also the second half of the race should be faster than the first half. I would like to have a last 400 sprint, so I will time this. We are working on; pack, stronger last miles with a 400 finish.

As your boys will remind you,
tomorrow night is the Davidson Boosters membership drive when the Davidson
athletes go door-to-door asking for donations. I had several of our new
runner parents volunteer to be the parent drivers but it turns out Tuesday is
also the freshman parent meeting at Davidson SO THE COACHES NEED 3 ADULT
DRIVERS TO HELP! Don't worry, you don't have to go
door-to-door! All the parent driver has to do is be at school about 6pm, take a
carload of runners to their designated neighborhood (in the Davidson attendance
area) then keep an eye on the boys til they are done.
My best guess is that they are out for about an hour. Then you return to
Davidson and you are done! Please email or call me (614-570-5136) if you
can help. Mrs. Steitz
